Souss Massa Pottery: Ali Baba's Cave
Just over 30 minutes from the Jardin aux Etoiles, this cave of Ali Baba named "Complex of Souss Massa" presents an undeniable interest. There are lots of Moroccan handicrafts, from tajines to lamps of all kinds, including ashtrays and egg cups. What however makes the originality of Souss Massa is a high quality pottery workshop, whose objects are exported abroad.
From your rental riad, you can access this giant shop by taking the airport and, at the Aît Melloul roundabout, turning left, towards Tiznit. We take this new four-lane express road to the town of Sidi Bibi. Our Ali Baba's cave presents itself shortly after this locality, on the right of the road. We are here not far from the ocean andTifnit beach.
Quality pottery
From tajines to goatskin lamps, from tadelakt dishes to pedestal tables adorned with metal, you can find almost all possible and imaginable objects, sometimes a little crowded, in several large rooms on two floors.
The most exciting thing is the pottery, located in the back of the shop, after an interior courtyard. We will kindly show you around if you ask. If you're lucky, you'll see a potter at work, like atKasbat Souss. The land comes from Safi or Tafraout, or even the nearby Souss river. The pottery, and in particular the lanterns and the sconces, are among the most beautiful pieces that can be found in Morocco.
